Minor in Agricultural and Resource Economics

This page describes the minor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at Colorado State University.

Purpose of the Minor

The minor in Agricultural and Resource Economics at Colorado State University is designed to recognize students who have completed an integrated set of courses offered by the Department. The set of courses that constitute the minor is flexible, and will depend upon your focus and interests. Typical topic areas include agricultural production management, agricultural finance, agricultural marketing, agricultural development, and environmental and resource economics.


Required Credits

The minor requires:

  • AREC 202, Agricultural and Resource Economics
  • 15 additional credits of AREC classes
  • 3 credits of additional coursework, to be determined in conjunction with minor program coordinator.

Declaring the Minor

You must officially declare the minor one full semester prior to the semester you plan to graduate. The earlier you discuss your academic goals with an advisor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, the greater flexibility you will have in meeting the requirements for the minor and achieving your academic goals.

To delcare a major, follow these steps:

  • Discuss your interests with an advisor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics. S/he can assist you in selecting appropriate courses to meet your academic goals and identify your progress toward the minor.
  • Fill out the Undergraduate Change of Major, Second Major, or Minor Form available from Denise Davis in B321 Clark.
  • Have the form signed by the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (see Densie Davis in B321 Clark) and submit it to the Office of Records and Registration, 100 Administration Annex.
  • You will be assigned a minor advisor. Plan to meet with this advisor regularly to keep him/her abreast of your progress and plans and to seek advice regarding course selection.

Record of the Minor

Upon completion, your academic record (as recorded in your transcript) will show the minor, but it will not appear on your diploma.
