Apply to the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics

In order to apply to the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at Colorado State University, several distinct pieces of information need to be provided to the Graduate School and to the Department. The Graduate School requires an online application form, the application fee, and official TOEFL scores (if applicable). Official GRE scores are required for Ph.D. applicants only. The Department requires TWO OFFICIAL transcripts from each institution of higher education you have attended, at least three letters of recommendation, and, if applicable, a Certificate of Issuance of Immigration document (GS3F).

This page walks you through the application steps. You may wish to print it out for reference as you go through the process, and/or see the Admissions Requirements and Procedures document prepared by the Graduate School.

Before you Begin

Although it is not strictly necessary, you may want to prepare your resume and statement of purpose which will be entered into the proper fields on the main application form. The statement of purpose may be helpful in your admission. However, it is more often used to help us assign you an initial advisor. Please tell us about your educational and working experience and about the areas you are most interested in studying. You can be general, such as agricultural marketing or finance, or specific such as carbon sequestration markets.

The Online Application

Once you have your information prepared, follow the link to the University's online application submission system and create an account if you have not already done so. Complete the application and pay the application fee.  You will be asked to insert your previously prepared resume and statement of purpose. If either of these is too large to insert, they can be emailed to denise.davis@colostate.edu.

Next, you will be prompted to enter your area of study. Please provide an answer, as we use this in addition to your statement of purpose to try and match you with a faculty advisor in your area of interest. Your choices are:

  • Agricultural Production & Finance Economics
  • Agricultural Business & Marketing Economics
  • International Development Economics
  • Natural Resource and Environmental Economics.

You will then be asked for the Name, E-mail Address, Telephone number and Company/Institution of three people you will contact and ask to send letters of recommendation to the department. Have your letters sent to the following departmental address:

Denise Davis
Clark B321
Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics

Admissions does require the testing site send the official scores directly to CSU. The Institution Code for CSU is 4075.
