Apply to the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics
In order to apply to the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at Colorado State University, several distinct pieces of information need to be provided to the Graduate School and to the Department. The Graduate School requires a signed application form GS Form F1 (which you fill out online), the application fee, and official TOEFL scores (if applicable). Official GRE scores are optional. The Department requires TWO copies of OFFICIAL transcripts from each institution of higher education you have attended, at least three letters of recommendation, and, if applicable, a Certificate of Issuance of Immigration document (GS3F) and an Application for Fellowships, Traineeships, Research and Teaching Assistantships (GS4B).
This page walks you through the application steps. You may wish to print it out for reference as you go through the process, and/or see the Admissions Requirements and Procedures document prepared by the Graduate School.
Before you Begin
Although it is not strictly necessary, you may want to prepare your resume and statement of purpose which will be entered into the proper fields on the main application form. The statement of purpose may be helpful in your admission. However, it is more often used to help us assign you an initial advisor. Please tell us about your educational and working experience and about the areas you are most interested in studying. You can be general, such as agricultural marketing or finance, or specific such as carbon sequestration markets.
The Online Application
Once you have your information prepared, follow the link to the University's online application submission system and create an account if you have not already done so. Once you complete Part I of the application and pay the application fee, you will proceed to Part II, the graduate portion of the application. This is where you should insert your previously prepared resume and statement of purpose.
Next, you will be prompted to enter your area of study. Please provide an answer, as we use this in addition to your statement of purpose to try and match you with a faculty advisor in your area of interest. Your choices are:
- Agricultural Production & Finance Economics
- Agricultural Business & Marketing Economics
- International Development Economics
- Natural Resource and Environmental Economics.
You will then be asked for the Name, E-mail Address, Telephone number and Company/Institution of three people you will contact and ask to send letters of recommendation to the department. Have your letters sent to the following departmental address:
Barbara Brown
Clark B-318
Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics

You may also self-report your GRE and/or TOEFL scores in this section, as well as let us know if you are interested in the Peace Corp, Fellowships, etc. Your GRE score is optional. It is not necessary if you have a strong application, but you should include it if you feel that you need additional demonstration of your abilities.
