Description of Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, research and outreach in environmental economics. The incumbent will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in environmental economics as well as econometrics and/or other quantitative methods as appropriate. The individual will advise undergraduate and graduate students. The individual is expected to develop a scholarly program of applied research in environmental economics appropriate to the broad set of environmental issues facing Colorado. The successful candidate is expected to pursue actively and obtain external funding. Regular publication of research in refereed journals and other outlets and service to the University, profession, and society are expected. The successful candidate should be enthusiastic about developing a successful and comprehensive program in environmental economics and have a willingness to be a team player in the department, across the CSU campus and the state of Colorado.

The initial 9 month appointment will include teaching expectations of 2-3 semester classes per academic year, significant research productivity, including contract and grant activity, professional service and responsiveness to outreach education opportunities within the state.


Required Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Economics or Agricultural and Resource Economics, or a closely related field. The Ph.D. must be complete by December 31, 2008 and prior to employment.
  • Specialization or professional experience in environmental economics (e.g., Ph.D. field and/or dissertation topic, publications, employment history).
  • Ability to disseminate applied research results to academic and broader public audiences.
  • Evidence of research productivity (e.g., research presentations, publications and candidate references).
  • Ability and interest in teaching and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Willingness and ability to aggressively pursue contract and grant funding.

Desired:

  • Ability and interest to work with Colorado policy makers at the local and state levels.
  • Ability and interest to work with state and federal agencies.
  • Ability and interest to work in a multi-disciplinary setting (e.g, biofuels, bio-complexity).
  • Demonstrated teaching experience as an instructor, teaching assistant, or faculty member.
  • Strong analytical skills in one or more of the following areas of inquiry: choice modeling, nonmarket valuation, industrial organization, experimental economics, spatial econometrics, policy instrument design, GIS, and CGE modeling.

Effective Date:

The position is available for annual 9-month tenure track appointment beginning August 15, 2008. The successful candidate must be in place by no later than January 1, 2009.
